Ex-civil servant did what?

29 09 2006

Quote from http://sg.news.yahoo.com/060929/5/singapore232966.html, a news report regarding an NEA’s ex-senior manager:

On Oct 19, Neo claimed, he went through his normal routine and visited an adult chatroom for five minutes. During the period of the alleged offences, he said, there were about 20 part-time environmental health officers “hanging around” his office, which he never locked.

Wow, didn’t know NEA’s staff are allowed to visit adult chatrooms as part of their “normal routine” during office hours? :p

Struts 2 is available

27 09 2006

Woohoo, the much-anticipated wait is over… the marriage of Struts 1 and WebWorks 2 is complete: the result is Struts 2.0!

The latest release is 2.0.0, which is considered as a developer release. I’m downloading it now for a spin. Will Struts 2 really be the next big thing in action-based web framework? Yes, I look forward to it being so. :-)

7 Eleven…

26 09 2006

My tiny mind ponders… do we really need to go through all these, just to choose another 7-Eleven spokesperson?

Our 4th wedding anniversary

21 09 2006

Wow, how time flies. Today is our 4th wedding anniversary. The Americans term 4th-year anniversaries as linen/silk while the British term it as fruit/flower. Uh, the term is not important anyway.

We celebrated in advance yesterday coz both of us had matters to attend to today.

Yesterday after work, I went to United Square to have my shoulder massaged while waiting for you to leave office. Later you arrived and watched while the shi fu worked my strained shoulder. When it’s time to pay up, the counter lady kept on insisting that we sign up for a 10-session package. Good thing we didn’t cave in to the pressure. hehe.

Then it’s makan time! We took a short train ride to Somerset to try out the Mushroom Pot. The restaurant was strangely located in an OG departmental store. :-)

dscf2420.JPG The herbal soup was great. There was also a type of mushroom that resembled lamb intestines, which fully absorbed the soup. Yummy.

After dinner, we walked around in the OG departmental store… looking at Tempur mattresses+pillows and buying a packet of fried dried fruits.

We then had a drink at a nearby S-11. You drank the super duper sour lime juice while I had ice lemon tea.

After that, we took a nice slow walk to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station to catch a train home.

Simple celebration, but valuable memories nonetheless.

Happy weddding anniversary, dar dar.

Yahoo! sign-in seal

16 09 2006

Yahoo sign-in sealYahoo! recently launched a security feature called sign-in seal. The main purpose is to prevent phishing. Once you’ve created your own personalized seal on a computer, you’ll always be shown that seal when you’re about to login to Yahoo from that computer.

For example, I’ve personalized my seal to be that of an Apple cup image. Seeing this personalized seal on my Yahoo login page will give me greater confidence that I’m submitting my credentials to the genuine Yahoo website.

On a technical note,

The interesting thing is this: I thought Yahoo must be using some underlying cookies to identify my computer. As a simple test, I manually cleared all my cookies and revisited the login page again… it’s still showing my personalized seal! How does Yahoo recognize my computer even though I’ve cleared all my cookies???

Exciting faces to watch out for in the next GE. They will be covering the area that I live in!

Great work, guys and gals. Keep it up!

Touting at Newton Hawker Centre

14 09 2006

Last night, got to dine at Newton Hawker Centre with a couple of friends and my cousin’s new girlfriend.

I find that the touting there is more intensified than it was before the renovation. The moment we stepped into the compound, we have over-zealous stall owners clearing tables for us, wiping seats for us, and almost stuffing their stalls’ menus into our face.

Brings a whole new meaning to the GEMS (Going the Extra Mile for Service) movement. WDA must be proud of them. hehe. :)

Schnappi

MTV of a cute German toddler song that was the craze, like, 1 year ago.

For the kid in all of us. :-)

Botak Jones

7 09 2006

Yummy, yummy. Met up with SY for lunch after she attended a seminar this morning. She insisted on lunching at Botak Jones after hearing me talk about it. :-)

SY ordered “Rosemary Lamb Chops” [view picture] while I tried the double-patty “The Botak Double” [view picture]. The servings are pretty huge, especially if you top up $1 for fries and coleslaw.

The ambience is great too as the eatery is situated at a ulu part of Ang Mo Kio (Blk 608 Ang Mo Kio Ave 5, to be exact). It is similar to the kind of ambience when you eat American in the Sembawang areas, such as Buckaroos and Jerry’s Grill.

We’ll definitely be back again to taste other exciting dishes (such as the gigantic sausages). *drool*

Crocodile hunter dies

4 09 2006

Steve Irwin

Today, I’m once again reminded of the fragility of life as I learn of the sudden death of the “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin. Steve was killed by a stingray while filming a documentary today. He was 44.

Perhaps it was his big TV personality that made me feel the loss so sudden. Someone who was so lively and adrenaline-pumped has just left the world so suddenly in the blink of an eye.

Lesson to self: Live life to the fullest everyday… coz I may not even have the chance to look back on my life.
